In December 2011 SA Adventure will embark on an Expedition to the village of Mtwara in southern Tanzania! This year we will be visiting the Mtwara Volunteering Crew, who are heavily involved in sustainable projects such as farming, self empowerment, education and HIV/Aids prevention and education!
The Mtwara Volunteer Crew initially came into being from the concerns of two people: Maria Antoraz Alonso (Spain) and Amin Sinani (Tanzania) in 2007. They saw the needs that the Tanzanian region of Mtwara was suffering from, formerly because Amin was born and raised there and latterly because Maria had visited the country on several occasions. Their goal is to uplift and empower the local people in the region!
Our Expedition to Mtwara will take us through 7 countries in 21 days and over 7900 kilometers will be covered. Along the way we will visit other impoverished communities in all the countries we travel through and will be teaching local people the importance of sustainability for them and their families! We will be traveling through South Africa, Swaziland, Mozambique, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia and Botswana.
What will SA Adventure’s goal be on this Expedition? We will be working with the Mtwara Volunteering Crew over the Christmas period, where our intention is to help establish vegetable gardens which can be tended by the older children and become a sustainable project. We will also be working with the teachers at the school and be donating educational material as well as stationary for the school children! We would also like to take whatever gifts and toys we can find to give to the children as Christmas presents.
On our return leg to South Africa we will be traveling through the beautiful country of Malawi, and will be stopping in to visit our friends at the Village of Hope Orphanage in Lilongwe, we visited the Village of Hope in December 2010 and would love to see everyone there again!
Please be aware that the Expedition is a sponsored one so we can offer it to you at a very reduced cost of R 5500 per person, in your own 4x4, this fee includes all meals, accommodation and park fees the only thing extra that you will be required to pay for is your fuel, tolls and border fees however this trip is one with a purpose and can sometimes be very demanding! We won’t always be sleeping in lodges and will be camping along the route but if its adventure you are after that’s what you will get! You will also be given a full 4x4 training course before we leave on the Expedition! The dates for this year’s trip are 16th December 2011 to 5nd January 2012. We always include places of interest along the route and this year we will be overnighting at some of Africa’s most beautiful spots such as Quelimane Beach, Mozambique, Lake Malawi, Victoria Falls and Kubu Island, Botswana to name a few!
